One morning, the villagers of Chipping Cleghorn are surprised to find the following advertisement on the local paper:

“A murder is announced and will take place on Friday, October 29th, at Little Paddocks at 6:30pm. Friends please accept this, the only intimation”

So, of course, a crowd presents itself at Little Paddocks at 6:30 on the dot where the owner of the house, Letitia Blacklock, warmly welcomes them convinced that it’s all a joke, except that, when the lights go out, a stranger appears on the door and a gun goes off. When the lights are back on, the intruder is dead and Letitia Blacklock is slightly injured. Who could want her dead and why?

Luckily, Miss Jane Marple is visiting the village and ready to solve the mystery, but can she do it before someone else dies?

This was a very fun read full of twists and surprises and, as usual with Agatha Christie’s novels, impossible to solve and figure out (at least for me). I am really loving the village settings in the Miss Marple novels: they are cozy and fun and full of gossip and secrets.

A Murder Is Announced is the fourth novel in the Miss Marple series and, so far, my favorite, but there are still more to come…
