You’ve probably heard about this series as it’s also a hit TV show on Netflix. You is the first book to follow Joe Goldberg, one of the most dangerous, creepiest, and yet fascinating characters ever. Joe lives in New York where he runs a bookstore and it is here that he first meets Beck and, at least for him, it is love at first sight. He knows he has to have her, even if he has to kill those who get between them. Joe won’t stop at nothing to have Beck, but is she the perfect girl that Joe has built in his head?
What I love about this series is that the author takes the reader right into Joe’s mind. You know his thoughts, his hopes, his fears, and the logic behind his actions. Everything is revealed. Not only Joe, but all the characters in the book, are complex, multi-layered, and, mostly, self-destructive. It’s not characters that you’ll like, but you’ll become engrossed in their stories and you’ll want to see how far they can go to get what they want. As Joe’s pursue of Beck becomes deadly you can’t help but wonder if they deserve a happy ending. Chilling, addictive, and dark, you won’t be able to put it down!
