I love this author, but she always leaves me with tears in my eyes. When I Come Home Again is a beautiful and emotional story about love and memory.
Adam is a soldier, but that’s not his real name. No one knows his name, not even himself, because he has no memory of his past. Found wandering by Durham Cathedral, he is taken to a rehabilitation house where doctor James Haworth becomes obsessed in helping him find the truth about his past. With many families looking for their lost ones after the war, they all see in Adam a son, a husband, a brother… but who is really Adam?
It was heartbreaking reading about families who have no idea whether their loved ones are still alive or are buried somewhere in the battlefields. It is not only the story of a soldier coming home, but, after the horror of the war, what happens to them? How do they get over the fear and the nightmares?
When I Come Home Again is an addictive, unique, and intense story and you will keep thinking about it long after you’ve finished reading.
