Hangman’s Holiday is a fantastic collection of short stories featuring not only Lord Peter Wimsey, but also Montague Egg, a travelling salesman turned amateur detective.
Lord Peter solves various mysteries from meeting a man on the train who believes to be responsible for a murder even though he doesn’t remember it to figuring out who’s taken a princelessnecklace during a Christmas party.
Montague Egg is a new character for me, but I found him fascinating and enjoyed his stories. During his travels as a sales person for a spirits and wine company, he finds himself involved in investigations, and he uses his knowledge of poisons to solve them, while quoting maxims from his favourite book, The Salesman’s Handbook.
Hangman’s Holiday was a delightful and thrilling read, full of wit and intrigue!
