It’s the end of the October, the weather is colder and the scariest night of the year is here. While children are outside playing “Trick or Treat”, I am inside reading a book, of course, so I thought I will give you a few books you might enjoy on this night.

The first one is THE WHISPER MAN by Alex North. A single father and his young son move to a new village for a fresh start not knowing that there is a man kidnapping children by whispering outside their bedroom windows in the middle of the night. It literally gave me the chills and made me check that the front door was locked before going to be at night.
Then there is A HOUSE OF GHOSTS by C. W. Ryan. In the aftermath of World War I, a group of people reunite in a house on a remote island to do a séance to contact their loved ones who died during the war, but it seems there is a killer among them. It’s a bit spy novel, a bit ghost story, a bit historical novel and I loved it.
Another novel I recommend is the second book by C. J. Tudor, THE TAKING OF ANNIE THORNE. Set in a dark and chilling village where strange things have happened, the story is unpredictable and suspenseful and highly worth a read.
If you are looking for a disturbing story, you should read THE CHESTNUT MAN by Søren Sveistrup. Gruesome murders, tension always high, and fast-paced, this is a fantastic noir.
Next I am going to recommend Ruth Ware. She has written five novels so far and they are all twisty and chilling.
Lastly but not least, I couldn’t finish this article without talking about one of my favourite authors, Agatha Christie. Of course, I recommend her entire bibliography, but there are two titles that I think are perfect for tonight. AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, ten strangers left on an island are killed one by one (it’s my favourite book) and HALLOWE’EN PARTY which features my favourite detective, Hercule Poirot.
Happy reading and happy Halloween!
