Pubblicato in Italia con il titolo Ombre nell’acqua. Un piccolo paese sulla costa australiana è scioccato da un brutale omicidio che riporta alla luce un tragico passato.
The Survivors is the latest novel by Jane Harper. I love this author because her thrillers are slow-burning and suspenseful and also because they are set in Australia (which there are not many out there).
In this new novel, Jane Harper takes the reader to Evelyn Bay, a small town on the Tasmanian Coast. The protagonist, Kieran, has spent many years away from his hometown, but now he is back to help his parents move. The return brings back to light the ghosts of his past, especially after the body of a young woman is found on the beach.
This is an interesting and slow-paced story. The homicide of the young woman resurfaces the guilt and grief of a tragedy that struck the small community twelve years earlier and Kieran is not the only one who feels it. The characters are intriguing, realistic, and well-developed and I really liked the character of Kieran who I found flawed and authentic.
Once again, Jane Harper didn’t disappoint and created a story that it is twisty, addictive, and heartbreaking.
