Non ancora pubblicato in Italia. Una comprensiva biografia di una donna che non era solo a capo di un impero, ma che era anche una figlia, una moglie, una madre, e una vedova.
This is a beautiful, insightful, and brilliantly written biography of the woman who has been the queen of the United Kingdom for 64 years, from 1837 to 1901, when she was ruling over a quarter of the world population. Born Alexandrina Victoria, she was fifth in the line of succession after her uncles and her father. The biography focuses on the most important events in Victoria’s life: from her father’s death a few months after her birth to a strict childhood preparing as the heir to the throne; from her uncle’s death and her coronation to her wedding to her cousin Albert, the man who became the center of her world; from becoming mother of nine children to becoming a widow after twenty years of marriage; and then, her mourning for her husband and her last years.
In this immersive biography, Lucy Worsley cleverly shows how “as well as a queen, she was also a daughter, a wife and a widow, and at each of these steps along life’s journey, she had to perform all sorts of troubling mental contortions to conform to what society demanded of a woman.” I enjoyed reading about a woman who was so much more than the queen of England. It’s very informative and intriguing and I can’t recommend it enough!
