Another year is gone and another is about to begin so it’s time to choose my favourite books of the year:

THRILLER: I read a scary amount of crime books and it’s not easy to choose the best ones, but I will try. My absolute favourite is THE WHISPER MAN by Alex North, followed very closely by THE LAST WIDOW by Karin Slaughter. Of course, THE TAKING OF ANNIE THORNE, the second novel by my all-time favourite CJ Tudor is on the top of the list together with THE CHESTNUT MAN by Soren Sveistrup. New novels by Joseph Knox, Ruth Ware and Riley Sager kept me glued to the pages.

ROMANCE: at the top of the list is the novel I have been waiting for for four years: the new Sophie Kinsella’s novel featuring my favourite character Becky Bloomwood, CHRISTMAS SHOPAHOLICS. The latest novel by Paige Toon, set in Italy, is also one of my favourite of the year, together with THE BOOKISH LIFE OF NINA HILL by Abby Waxman. And then, there is the debut of the year, THE FLATSHARE by Beth O’Leary!

FANTASY: this year, I have been discovering many fantasy writers (mostly YA) and building my own shelf of this books. My favourite of the year is SERPENT & DOVE by Shelby Mauhrin, the first of a fantastic duology that kept me completely captivated and I can’t wait to read the sequel. This brilliant novel is closely followed by FINALE, the third and final novel in the addictive series by Stephanie Garber. A CURSE SO DARK AND LONELY by Brigid Kemmerer is a modern and gripping retelling of the Beauty and the Beast and NINTH HOUSE by Leigh Bardugo is an engrossing adult fantasy exploring secret societies in Yale University.
