Imaginary Friend is not the right read for those weak of hearts. It is a horror story with monsters to haunt your dreams, real and imaginary worlds, and brilliantly written.
Imaginary Friend is the story of Christopher and his mother Kate, just arrived in Mill Grove, Pennsylvania. They don’t have an easy life, always struggling to make end meets, and hiding from someone dangerous. One day, Christopher wanders into the Mission Street Woods and he is only found six days later. He is physically fine, but he doesn’t remember anything of those days when he went missing. And when he and the other people in town start to behave in a strange way, Kate is ready to do anything to protect him.
As I mentioned, this is not an easy read. It features themes of mental illness, sexual abuse, and of good versus bad. The suspense is high and some of the descriptions are so vivid and dark that you will check that the doors are locked twice before going to bed.
It’s an incredible story that you won’t easily forget.
