This is one of the first books I read this year and I really loved it. The protagonist of the story is Harper McCain a young crime reporter who spends her nights chasing criminals around Savannah with her royal photographer friend Miles. One day she goes on the scene of a woman murdered in her own home. Her clothes had been removed and there is trace of the killer, no fingerprint, no hair, nothing. Everything is clean. This murder is a hard blow for Harper because, fifteen years before, her mother had been killed in the exact same way and it was her who had found her, when she was only twelve years old. The killer had never been found and now Harper is convinced that it’s the same killer so she starts to investigate on her own. But the police doesn’t think so and the more Harper investigates the more obstacles she finds along the way, even from people she considered family.

Harper is a strong woman, determined to find out the truth, no matter the consequences. The murder of her mother left a mark on her, and through some flashback, we see how she felt losing her mother, her father abandoning her, and practically being raised by the detective in charge of her mother’s investigation.

It’s not just thriller and mystery but there is also some romance as Harper falls for her long-friend detective Luke Walker, a detective. Their relationship is complicated by her investigation and by the fact that their relationship is considered prohibited because she is a journalist and he is a cop – not a good mix but they are really cute together!

The first book in a series, I am really looking forward to the next Harper McCain adventure next year!!!
