Non ancora pubblicato in Italia. Una donna in cerca della verità sulla morte del marito, deve capira di chi e che cosa si può fidare anche tra le persone più vicino a lei.

I hate to admit that this is the first time I read a novel by Lisa Unger. I had heard about her, but I never read any of her novels and, after reading Under My Skin, I am definitely going to catch up.

The protagonist of the novel is my favourite type of character in psychological thrillers, the unreliable narrator. Poppy Lang is the very definition of unreliable narrator. She drinks too much, she is on pills, she is sleep-deprived, and she can’t distinguish reality from dream. Her husband Jack was killed while jogging in the park a year earlier and since then she hasn’t been the same. While the police think that Jack was victim of a mugging gone wrong, Poppy suspects that there was much more behind his death and when she notices that someone is following her, she decides to start investigating on her own.

I loved this novel. It’s gripping, twisty, and dark. The chapters end with cliffhangers that kept me on edge and made me want to read more and find out what would happen next. This is also an emotional novel as it was heartbreaking reading about Poppy’s grief over her husband’s death. Her memories of their years together, both happy and sad memories, created a few tearful moments (at least for me).

The author’s brilliant writing, her attention to details, her carefully-crafted plotted kept me glued from the first to the last page and if you haven’t still read Lisa Unger, she is an author I highly recommend.
