Pubblicato in Italia con il titolo Alta marea per Lord Peter. Una vacanza si trasforma in un’investigazione per omicidio quando la scrittrice Harriet Vane trova un corpo sulla spiaggia. Chi poteva volere morto un ballerino russo?

Have His Carcase is the first book by Dorothy L. Sayers that I read many years ago and the one that made me become a fan of this author. First published in 1932, it’s the second book featuring mystery author Harriet Vane (we first met her in Strong Poisonwhere she was accused of murdering her former lover) as she is the one who, during an holiday hiking on the South West coast of England, finds the murdered body of a man on the beach. No one else was around and many of the proof, along with the body, havebeen swept away from the sea. Luckily, Lord Peter Wimsey doesn’t waste time in coming to help and, together, they try to figure out what happened.

This was another intriguing case of the aristocratic amateur detective and, this time, he is accompanied by the woman who keeps refusing his marriage proposals. The case is quite intriguing, a locked-room mystery full of twists and surprises, and Peter and Harriet make an unstoppable duo of detectives.
