Once again, Lord Peter Wimsey stumbles upon a body. This time it’s at one of his clubs, The Bellona Club, where he is meeting a friend when one of its oldest and most known members, General Fentiman, is found dead in his chair. Everyone is happy to claim it a natural death, but when the inheritance of a fortune makes it necessary to investigate the death further, it turns out that things are not quite as straightforward. Where did the general spend his last night? And is one of his heirs involved in his death?

This is another complex case for Lord Peter, especially as it involves someone he knows personally. As a huge fortune is in play, the suspects are the heirs, but the twists took me by surprise. And while I quite enjoyed the mystery to solve, I also loved how the author addresses problems of mental health, especially in soldiers back from the war. Overall, another intriguing and immersive read.
