Elizabeth von Arnim is not well-known, but when her novel Elizabeth and her German Garden was published at the end of the XIX century it was widely popular and it was reprinted multiple times in just a few months. The author was born in Australia and she married a German aristocrat, became a Countess, and moved to Germany where she set some of her novels.
Elizabeth and her German Garden is a novel loosely based on her life and narrated in diary form. In her diary, the protagonist talks about her family and her neighbours, but mostly about her garden, which she loves deeply. The diary is funny and intriguing, a fantastic and short read that kept me quite entertained.
