Pubblicato in Italia con il titolo Chi ha ucciso mia sorella. Una donna in cerca della verità sulla scomparsa della sorella viaggia insieme all’uomo che ne ritiene responsabile. Una storia piena di suspense e colpi di scena.

Let me start by saying that I really enjoyed this mystery novel, even if the plot is very unbelievable. The pace is slow and, although there is much suspense, there are also a few calm moments.

The protagonist of the novel is a young woman. When she was twelve years old, her sister Rachel disappeared while she was going to her summer job as a babysitter and she was never found. But the young woman never gave up and she spent the last twelve years investigating and researching women who disappeared like Rachel. Her investigation led her to Carl Louis Feldman, once a famous photographer, now a man suffering from early dementia who lives in a nursing home. A few years back, he had been accused of kidnapping a woman and, although he was acquitted, the young woman believes he is guilty of Rachel’s disappearance and that of other women. So, pretending to be his daughter, she takes him on a trip around Texas in the places that are linked to the disappearances of these women to jog his memory. But things won’t be as easy as she thought…

Even though Carl is supposed to be the villain of the story, I couldn’t help but like this character.  He has a sense of humor, he rescues abandoned and crippled animals, and he is smart as he uses the dementia to get the young woman do what he wants. Her sister disappearance and her search for the truth and justice has been at the center of the young woman’s life, it’s her obsession, and she won’t stop at anything to get to the end of this story, although, like Carl, she is a good person, paying the bills for the vet, taking on the abandoned animals, and always paying her debts.

The novel includes extracts from journals, photographs, and flashbacks that give the reader a complete picture of the story. The characters are engaging and the descriptions of the Texan landscape are very evocative. An original and immersive story that will keep you glued to the page.
