Narra tree is the national tree of the Philippines, it is a majestic reddish hard wood tree with a sweet rose scent, growing to 33 meters high and 2 meters in diameter with an irregular fluted trunk. Leaves are compound, pinnate, 15 to 30 centimeters long, with 7 to 11 leaflets which ovate to oblong-ovate, and 5 to 10 centimeters long.
The Philippine narra tree is Pterocarpus indicus, a large deciduous tree that is native to northern Australia, southeastern Asia and islands in the western Pacific. The narra tree is a good termite resistance, and it is often used for cabinets, furniture and musical instruments. The wood is durable in seawater, making it an important material for building canoes and paddles. The resin produced by the narra tree is also used as a remedy for sores and tumors in the mouth.
