Non ancora pubblicato in Italia. Cosa fareste se trovaste un uomo ucciso? Chiamareste la polizia? Oppure fareste come Neve Connolly e cerchereste di pulire la scena anche se non siete stati voi ad ucciderlo?

This is one of my favourite books of the year. The claustrophobic atmosphere, the well-crafted and multi-layered characters, the twisty plot kept me completely captivated.

The protagonist of the novel is Neve Connolly. A mother, a wife, a woman with a secret, a huge secret that could destroy her life and her family and that she would do anything to protect. Her secret? She found the body of her boss Saul, clearly murdered, and she didn’t call the police. Why? That’s easy to figure out, but when Neve doesn’t call the police, she sets in motion a series of even with catastrophic consequences.

What I loved most about this novel is that the reader is inside Neve’s head. Even when she makes bad choices that make you scream “DON’T DO IT!”, you can empathize with her, you understand her, you can feel her fear, her remorse, her grief. The suspense kept me anxious and literally on the edge of my seat from the first to the last page. There is never a relaxing moment, with a detective always turning up unannounced at Neve’s door, old and lost friend taking her house for a frat dorm, and Neve’s teenage daughter with her own problems.

If you are looking for a terrific, compulsive and highly suspenseful novel that you won’t be able to put down, then The Lying Room should be at the top of your list.
