This is my first novel by Paige Toon and the one that made me fall in love with her writing and her characters, and also with Cornwall.
The protagonist is Bridget, a journalist who is asked to ghost-write the sequel of a successful novel whose author had suddenly died. To do that, she moves to Cornwall for six weeks to do research and reading the author’s notes left to her husband. She is just supposed to be there for work, but she soon starts a close friendship with the widower, Charlie, and his young daughter April.
The Last Piece of My Heart is one of my favourite books of all times. In fact, I have read it five times already. I love the characters of Bridget, Charlie, and April and I love how the relationship between Bridget and Charlie develops. I love the setting of Cornwall and also of Thailand that are vividly and beautifully described. And I loved the story and the addictive writing. In summary, there is nothing that I didn’t like about this book!
