Non ancora pubblicato in Italia. Un omicidio vecchio di dieci anni si collega con la scomparsa di una giovane donna in un’isola remota. L’ispettore Hulda Hermannsdottir torna per un secondo romanzo pieno di suspense.

Ragnar Jonasson brings back Detective Inspector Hulda Hermannsdottir for a second novel. We already met her in The Darkeness, but, in The Island, we follow her trying to solve a case earlier in her career. It’s the 1980s and a young couple is going away for a few days in a cabin in the Icelandic Westfjords. A few days later, a local detective is travelling to the cabin to see if the daughter’s owner is there after their parents have reported her missing.
Ten years later, four friends reunite on a remote island. They haven’t seen each other for a while, but they are commemorating something. However, alone and with no much to do, secrets come to light and one of them disappear. Hulda travels to the isolated island to investigate.
I really liked the character of Hulda Hermannsdottir in The Darkness and I was happy to go back to her. At work, she is determined and she works hard to look for the truth even if the prejudice against women in the police force make it difficult to get promoted. On her personal life, she is grieving a few losses and she is also looking for the father she never met.
With beautiful descriptions of Iceland and a gripping and chilling story, The Island is a fantastic and suspenseful read that I devoured in one day!
