I do love a good Nordic noir and The Chestnut Man is certainly really good. The novel is set in Copenhagen where a number of gruesome homicides is keeping the police quite busy. Investigating the murders is detective Naia Thulin, a single mother who dreams to be transferred to the Cyber Crime Unit. Helping her, although much against both their wishes, it’s Mark Hess a detective from Europal who, following a disciplinary case, has been relegated to the Homicide Squad. Naia and Mark work against time to stop the killer before it’s too late, but they are always a step behind and they can’t figure out why, on each murder scene, they find a chestnut doll.

I really liked the characters of Naia and Mark. They are very well developed and I really hope that there will be more books featuring the two detectives. The setting of Copenhagen gives the novel a darker tone and the story is gripping, compelling and chilling. If you love Jo Nesbo’s books, you are going to love this novel, a debut (surprisingly!) that I couldn’t put down!
