“Garbage”, spazzatura in inglese. Ma anche l’acronimo di un Gruppo di Attivisti dedicati al Riciclo per il Bene dell’Ambiente. Succede nelle Filippine e l’opera di queste persone coraggiose è talmente efficace che ha riempito un museo, quello di Davao City.

Barangay Lapu-Lapu, Agdao, Davao City in the Region of Mindanao Philippines, have been proud of its clean coastline and a waste museum. The community have created a group called GARBAGE or Group of Advocates on Recycling for Better and Greater Environment. The group’s advocacy is to lessen the people’s trash, especially within their barangay. They literally turn everyday trash into creative treasures which they displayed in their museum, in a proposal to raise awareness about the problem on improper solid waste disposal.

In October 2018, Barangay Lapu-Lapu opened a Waste Museum, said to be the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. The museum filled with artworks created from plastic wrappers to paper trash. GARBAGE co-founder and Waste Museum artist Dennis Almoroto showed products even made out of a deodorant stick and wires.

The group open the museum to the public as a tourist spot and as a source of livelihood for the residents as well.
