Pubblicato in Italia con il titolo di Miss Marple e i tredici problemi. Una fantastica collezione di misteri e un’anziana signora in grado di risolverli.
The Thirteen Problems is a gripping collection of earliest stories about Miss Marple. First published in 1932, the stories see Miss Marple solving cases from the comfort of her chair. The first six stories are set in Miss Marple’s house in St Mary Mead where she is hosting a dinner party which includes her nephew Raymond West. During the dinner, each guest tells a complex mystery that the others must try to solve. The other six stories take place again during a dinner party where, this time, Miss Marple is one of the guests. Again, each guest narrates a mystery that the others try to solve. Of course, even though everyone underestimates her, Miss Marple is the one always solving the case by recalling events from her past because, as she says, “human nature is much the same in a village as anywhere else, only one has opportunities and leisure for seeing it at closer quarters”. The last story sees Miss Marple solving the case of a drowned girl in the village.
This is such a fun and entertaining read where you can pretend to be one of the guests and try to solve the cases. Highly recommended!
