Non ancora pubblicato in Italia. Una storia di mistero e paranormal che vi farà venire i brividi.

One of my favourite crime authors is back with her fourth novel. The Burning Girls features suspense with a touch of a paranormal element that gave me goosebumps.

It is set in a close community full of history and secrets. Revered Jack and fifteen-year-old Flo arrive in the small village of Chapel Croft for a new and quiet start, but right from the beginning things are far from quiet. First Jack finds out that the former reverend had killed himself, then a box containing a kit for exorcism is left on the doorstep. In a village where the residents are obsessed with the history of the eight Protestants martyrs burned at stake five hundred years before and the two missing teenagers who disappeared thirty years earlier and were never found, Jack and Flo try to find a way to be accepted and survive.

While the suspense and the mystery are at the center of the story, I loved how the author also focuses on the parent-daughter relationship between Jack and Flo. They are close, but Flo is a teenager so she keeps secrets from Jack that can’t help but worry.

Creepy, dark, and gripping, The Burning Girls is the new novel by an author who never disappoints.
