Pubblicato in Italia con il titolo L’incantevole Amanda. Quando Sir Gareth incontra per caso la giovane Amanda non sa che si troverà coinvolto in una serie di mirabolanti e divertenti avventure.

After reading my first Georgette Heyer’s novel, Venetia, I became obsessed with this author and I bought a few more of her books. My next read was Sprig Muslin and while I didn’t love it as much as Venetia, it was still entertaining and immersive.
The protagonists of the novel are Sir Gareth Ludlow who, seven years after the death of his fiancée, has decided that it’s time to find a wife and he already has one in mind, his old friend Lady Hester. On his way to propose, he meets the young Amanda “Smith”. From here, they embark on a series of adventures that include rescues, lies, abductions, climbing up windows, and false highwaymen.

This was such a fun read. Amanda is a seventeen-year-old who escaped from home because her grandfather doesn’t want her to marry the man she loves. Her mischievous plans and her fantastical lies (that turn her into an heiress, a widow, or a victim of abduction depending on the story she is telling) put her in ridiculous and sometimes dangerous situations. Sir Gareth is determined to return Amanda to her grandfather, but she doesn’t make it easy with her attempts to escape. I loved their witty exchanges and the story is hilarious and enjoyable: there is not much romance, but lots of adventures.
