Pubblicato in Italia con il titolo L’imprevedibile Venetia. L’eccitante storia di una donna la cui vita viene sconvolta dall’arrivo di Lord Damerel.

I’ve just finished reading my first Georgette Heyer novel and now I am obsessed with this author and need to get my hands on all her other books (which are around 70!). Inspired by Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer established the regency romance as a subgenre, for which she is most famous, but she is also known for her detective novels.
The protagonist of the novel, Venetia, is a 25 year-old woman. Her older brother has left her the care of the family estate while he is abroad and of their younger brother Aubrey who prefers books to people (he was my favourite character).

She spends her days perfectly managing the estate and trying to avoid the unwanted attentions of her two neighbours: a young man who believes himself in love with her and an arrogant man who believes himself entitled to tell her what to do. Things become more exciting when Lord Damerel returns to the neighbourhood. Known for his rakish and scandalous ways, everyone around Venetia urges her to stay away from him, but she and Aubrey quickly become fast friends with him and spend more and more time with him.
I really loved this novel. The story, the characters, and the author’s writing kept me completely enthralled and I didn’t want the book to end. It was funny, witty, and immersive and I couldn’t get enough of it!
