I first read The Regulars a couple of years ago, when it came out in the UK, and I really enjoyed it. The plot is an unbelievable, but I loved the strong friendship between the three protagonists and the themes it tackles.

The protagonists of the novel are three women, three best friends. Evie is a copy editor for a women’s magazine, but her dream is to write about other than online dating and make-up. Krista dropped out of school to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. And Willow is an artist who is trying to get out of her famous father’s shadow. They are in their twenties and they live in New York. They are regular girls who don’t stand out in a city with millions other girls like them. Pretty is a potion that completely changes them. It makes them beautiful, confident, and charming, a magic liquid with disgusting side effects. Suddenly, Evie, Krista, and Willow have everything they want, but can they deal with the consequences?

The three characters are flawed, they are women looking for their happy ending, but they soon discover that being beautiful doesn’t always get you what you want. They are likable, realistic and very engaging.

The story is original, fresh, thought-provoking, and sharp and there are many hilarious situations that will make you laugh out loud. It tackles themes like feminism and the role of women in the world with wit and irony. I loved the author’s brilliant writing and I can’t wait for the TV series which is being developed.
