Non ancora pubblicato in Italia. Una fantastica storia di amicizia, sogni e speranze che vi terrà incollato alle pagine.
A few years ago, I read the author’s debut novel The Colour of Bee Larkham’s Murder and I adored her writing style and her authentic characters, so I was really excited to get into her second novel, One Ordinary Day At A Time, and I wasn’t disappointed – actually, I loved it more than the debut.
The protagonists of this novel are completely different and yet very similar and, despite a not very nice introduction to each other, they quickly become friends. Simon is a child genius, raised by a father who only cared that he won awards and got into the right college. At thirteen he was studying at Cambridge University, but now he makes fries at Prince Burger while trying to solve the Riemann Hypothesis and going to pub quizzes he doesn’t take part to. Jodie is a single mother, trying to get into Cambridge University to study English Literature while supporting herself and her seven-year-old son with her job at Prince Burger. Both Simon and Jodie come from a difficult and troubled childhood that still haunts them, but the friendship they form could help them get what they want.
With beautiful and relatable characters, this story captured my heart. I loved the relationship between Jodie and Simon and I found their stories both heartbreaking and heartwarming. A must-read!
