I adore this author. Her previous novel, Broken Girls, was brilliant and I was completely captivated. She returned in 2020 with another addictive story that kept me completely engrossed and gave me so many chills that I checked the doors were locked at night and I jumped at every noise outside the house. I do love a scary story.
The protagonists of The Sun Down Motel are Viv and Carly. In 1982, Viv left home and traveled to Fell, in upstate New York. She found a job as the night clerk at the Sun Down Motel until one night she disappeared and she was never found. Twenty-five years later, her niece Carly is grieving the death of her mother and she decides to leave college and to move to Fell to find out what happened to her aunt. Like Viv, she gets a job as night clerk at the Sun Down Motel. The motel doesn’t have many visitors, but the nights are not as quiet as you would think.
The story is dark and thrilling. It’s full of twists and suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the characters of Viv and Carly. Both strong and stubborn. Nothing will stop them from find out the truth. I can honestly say that this novel was one of my favourite of 2020 and I love the author’s writing style. It is a must- read!
