Non ancora pubblicato in Italia. Una storia coinvolgente di una donna che lotta per la libertà e la sopravvivenza.
Let me start by saying that this is not an easy read. The theme of abuse and human trafficking make for an emotional and powerful read.
The protagonist is a woman. Her husband calls her Jane, but that’s not her real name. It is the name he gave her when he bought her. She is his prisoner, forced to do his bidding and, if she doesn’t, she will burn some of the few things that she still owns.
Jane has tried to run away on more than one occasion, but her husband always managed to bring her home. She’s almost given up on her freedom, until a discovery makes her realize that it is time she fights for it.
The story is told in first person from Jane’s perspective and, as she narrates her life from her trip from Vietnam to England with her sister to the seven years as a prisoner, you really feel for her. Her husband is a monster, a cruel villain, who you will hate from the first page. Jane is a fantastic character. She develops well, she is strong and a survivor and she keeps the reader’s attention for the entire time. As I said, it is not an easy read, but it is worth it!
