Fi Lawson adores her house. She and her husband Bram have worked for it, have spent money on it, and after their divorce, they found a way to both live in there so that they didn’t have to sell it. So why is someone moving into her house? And why are they claiming that they bought the house from her husband?

The story begins with one of the protagonist, Fi, coming home one morning to find a young couple moving in her beautiful house. They claim that her husband sold the house to them, but Fi didn’t sign anything and Bram is not answering the phone. All her furniture and her things are gone from the house. Fi is living in a nightmare and a few weeks later she tells how it happened in a podcast for victims.

The other protagonist of the novel is her husband Bram. While Fi discovers that she doesn’t have a house anymore, Bram has just arrived in Switzerland and he tells his story in what he calls a suicide note.

Both tell their side of story starting a few months earlier when things started going completely wrong for both of them.

I have to admit that I don’t listen to podcast (mostly because I don’t have the time and the patience) but this is the second time that I find a novel in which part of the story is told through a podcast and I have to say that I greatly enjoy it (at least in a book). I especially love the comments left from the listeners who give their witty opinions.

The characters of this novel are deeply flawed, not very likable, but human and realistic. The plot is twisty and captivating and the alternation between the past and the present, between Fi and Bram keep you glued to the page eager to find out more. Gripping, thought-provoking, and beautifully-plotted, this novel is a complete page-turner!
