Pubblicato in Italia con il titolo Passeggero per Francoforte. Una storia di spie e cospirazioni in un’Europa in piena guerra fredda con protagonista un diplomatico in cerca di avventure.

“…it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.”

This is not my favourite novel by Agatha Christie, probably because it’s not a detective novel but more a mix of thriller and spy novel. The main character is Sir Stafford Nye, “a dark horse of diplomacy” described by the author as 45 years old, “of medium height, with a smooth, olive, clean-shaved face.” During a flight from Malaya, he stops at Frankfurt Airport where he is approached by a woman who asks for his help. She is in danger and she needs his identity to escape. From here starts a tale of spies and conspiracies that sometimes I found difficult following. All in all, it was an interesting read, with quite a few surprises, but I don’t think it’s Agatha Christie’s best!
