In 1949, American author Helen Hanff wrote a letter to Marks & Co., a British bookstore specializing in out-of -print books, with a list of books she’s desperately been looking for. She receives an answer from bookseller Frank Doel. As they keep exchanging letters, she with more requests of books, he proposing various editions, a friendship is born that will last for twenty years as they share details about their personal lives and even exchange gifts.

84 Charing Cross Road is such a beautiful and immersive read. The first part is in the epistolary form, the second as a journal, as it narrates the friendship between two people divided by an ocean and united by their love for literature and beautiful books. Also adapted into a movie starring Anne Bancroft, Anthony Hopkins, Judi Dench, I can’t recommend it enough!
