Non ancora pubblicato in Italia. Una profonda e interessante ricerca sulle autrici che hanno influenzato la carriera letteraria di Jane Austen.

I can’t remember when or how I started following Rebecca Romney on Instagram, but I know I enjoyed her videos about rare book collecting very much, so when I found out that she had a book coming out and about my favourite writer I knew I had to read it and I wasn’t disappointed.
Jane Austen’s Bookshelf: The Women Writers Who Shaped a Legend explores the female writers who were successful between the 18th and 19th century and that had an impact on Jane Austen and her writing, but who are no longer known or widely studied. From Ann Radcliffe, author of The Mysteries of Udolpho (the novel loved by Catherine Morland and Henry Tilney in Northanger Abbey), to Frances Burney, from Charlotte Lennox to Maria Edgeworth, from Charlotte Smith to Hester Lynch Thrale Piozzi, from Hannah Moore to Elizabeth Inchabald, these women all had some kind of influence on Jane Austen, through their novels, and Rebecca Romney recounts not only their lives and their works, but also her quest for their novels and why they are no longer read.
Jane Austen’s Bookshelf is an intriguing, immersive, and insightful read. I love Rebecca Romney’s writing style and how she makes the reader part of her deep research into these authors and their books. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it left me with a long list of books to read!!!
